Jeff Gordon: From “The Kid” to 3 Time Daytona 500 Winner

Jeff Gordon: From “The Kid” to 3 Time Daytona 500 Winner

(PRWEB) March 9, 2005

Jeff Gordon was born on August 4, 1971 in Vallejo, California and began his ascension in the world of racing at an early age. He was only 5 years old when his stepfather, John Bickford, bought him a Quarter Midget race car. He raced nearly every day after school and won his first Quarter Midget championship when he was 8. Jeff later had won four class championships in Go Carts by the time that he was 13. This was extra significant in that he was competing against kids who were 17 and older. He was simply born to race.

Jeff and his family moved to Indiana when he was 15 to advance his racing career. This was due to the fact that Indiana not only had more racetracks but that he could also legally race Sprint Cars there with his parents permission.

The experience in Indiana, though, was not easy. Bickford in an interview with Newsweek stated that his family Â?slept in pick-up trucks and made our own parts. That’s why I think Jeff is misunderstood by people who think he was born to rich parents and had a silver spoon in his mouth.”

Jeff later went on to win 3 sprint car track championships before he was old enough to get a drivers license. He was also the youngest person ever to get a license with the United States Auto Club when he was 16 and had won over 100 races by the time he had graduated from Tri-West High School in nearby Lizton, Indiana in 1989. He became the youngest USAC National Midget Champion in history in 1990 at the amazing age of only 19.

The next chapter was Cup racing with NASCAR in 1993.He was named NASCAR Rookie of the Year after having seven top five finishes during his first year. JeffÂ?s first victory was the Coca Cola 600 in 1994 and it became blatantly obvious that he was a competitive threat in the world of NASCAR racing.

He took home the NASCAR driving title in 1995 and again in 1997, 1998 and 2001 as well. His most recent accomplishment was winning for the third time the Daytona 500 in 2005. The Daytona 500 is considered to be the granddaddy of all NASCAR races. He has had impressive victories all over the NASCAR circuit throughout his career. ItÂ?s no wonder that he has in the past earned the nicknames of Â?Wonder BoyÂ?, Â?Flash GordonÂ? and Â?The KidÂ?.

The record also shows that despite crashes, blown engines, lapses of inconsistency, a divorce and general bad luck that Jeff has always forged ahead with fierce determination to achieve his best. Stay tuned for many years of Â?The KidÂ? to come with an unbroken passion.

Jeff Gordon Puts Personal Treasures Up For Charity Auction

Jeff Gordon Puts Personal Treasures Up For Charity Auction

JG Eldora Helmet

Grandview, Mo. (PRWEB) October 4, 2007

Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and current Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup contender Jeff Gordon is donating a one-of-a-kind helmet, a historic racing uniform and other pieces of invaluable memorabilia for a series of online auctions that will benefit The Jeff Gordon Foundation. The auctions will give racing fans and collectors the opportunity to own unique pieces of racing history which have never before been made available to the general public.

The online auctions are being hosted by GoMotorBids.com, the official online auction house of The Jeff Gordon Foundation and Jeff Gordon, Inc., and include the helmet that Gordon wore at the Prelude to a Dream celebrity dirt race at Eldora Speedway, plus the firesuit he donned while competing in the 2007 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona event. Both of these items, as with all those featured in The Jeff Gordon Foundation auctions at GoMotorBids.com, have been personally autographed by the NASCAR champion.

“The Foundation was very excited to help create the helmet that Jeff wore at the Prelude to a Dream dirt track race,” said Jules Moss, business development manager for The Jeff Gordon Foundation. “It is the first time that a foundation helmet has been designed and worn by Jeff. We are always looking for unique items and this will definitely appeal to the avid collector as well as help to support children with chronic and life-threatening diseases.”

The firesuit was worn by Gordon earlier this year in the twice around the clock race — the first time Gordon had participated in a sports car endurance race. He competed with the No.10 SunTrust Pontiac Riley team, and shared driving duties with road racing aces Jan Magnussen, Max Angelelli and Wayne Taylor. The team finished third overall, putting Gordon on the podium in his first time out behind the wheel of a Daytona Prototype.

“The moment we announce auctions like this, I’ll start getting flooded with calls and emails asking about how much they are worth,” said Russ Dickey, director of marketing for GoMotorBids.com. “Jeff Gordon is one of the most talented and successful drivers of our generation, and will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time. So how do you put a value on pieces like this which mark highlights in his already stunning career?”

Dickey added he’ll let the market dictate what their value is. “The starting bid for these is only a dollar and they won’t have any reserve prices, so we’ll let the collectors and fans tell us what they are worth through the bidding process.”

Other notable upcoming auctions will include a #24 DuPont Monte Carlo go-kart, the “hat-dance” caps that Gordon wore in victory lane after his 77th win at Talladega in April, sheet-metal from a special Jeff Gordon Foundation Underdog show car, and even a custom made PRS electric guitar painted by renowned car customizer Chip Foose which was autographed by Foose, Gordon and legendary guitarist Carlos Santana. Each auction item is accompanied by a special Certificate of Authenticity, jointly crafted by Jeff Gordon, Inc. and GoMotorBids.com which has been designed to thwart counterfeiters. Jeff Gordon Auctions Off Hats, Helmet, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s Firesuit for Charity

Jeff Gordon Auctions Off Hats, Helmet, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s Firesuit for Charity

Grandview, MO (PRWEB) October 6, 2006

Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and current Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup contender Jeff Gordon has brought out the big guns for a series of online auctions that will benefit The Jeff Gordon Foundation. The auctions will give racing fans and collectors the opportunity to own unique pieces of racing history that have rarely before been made available to the general public.

The online auctions are being hosted by GoMotorBids.com, the official online auction house of The Jeff Gordon Foundation and Jeff Gordon, Inc., and include a complete set of “hat dance” caps from Gordon’s first win at Chicagoland Speedway, one of Gordon’s official helmets, and an authentic race-used Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Budweiser firesuit. All of these items are autographed by their respective drivers.

“Our goal with The Jeff Gordon Foundation weekly online auction was to provide unique, one-of-a-kind items that would add something special to the most dedicated fans collection while generating funds to support children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses.” said Jules Moss, Business Development Manager of The Jeff Gordon Foundation. “We were very excited when Dale Earnhardt, Jr. gave us one of his race-used firesuits for the auction. With his firesuit and the race helmet Jeff provided, both the Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. race fans will be able to bid on their drivers’ hard to acquire items and help children in the process.”

The set of hat dance caps represents racing history, as they were all worn by Gordon during his first visit to the winner’s circle at the Chicagoland Speedway after winning the 2006 USG Sheetrock 400. Most race fans are familiar with the “hat dance”, as it happens in victory lane after every race. The driver and crew members pose for a large number of pictures, changing hats after each shot. The hats feature the logos of all the various sponsors, associate sponsors, and other supporting organizations, and the whole process can sometimes take up to half-an-hour.

“We were really in awe of some of the items that Jeff was willing to auction off.” said Pat Rainey, director of marketing for GoMotorBids.com. “Things like the helmet and uniform usually go to sponsors or team VIP’s, so this is really a wonderful opportunity for fans to bid on a true collectible, while raising money for a great cause at the same time.”

All of The Jeff Gordon Foundation auctions have a starting bid of $ 1. With no minimum reserve price, the highest bidder will win. Each auction item is accompanied by a special Certificate of Authenticity, jointly crafted by Jeff Gordon, Inc. and GoMotorBids.com which has been designed to thwart counterfeiters.
