Patrick Rummerfield, the first fully functional quadriplegic in the history of medicine, announced today that he has been invited by Extreme Beverage Company, makers of Bookoo and Fire it Up beverages, and by the organizers of the Cowtown Dragboat Nationals, to test-race a dragboat on July 11, during the racing weekend at Marine Creek Lake in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Mr. Rummerfield, who remained paralyzed from the neck down following an auto accident in 1974, was given 72 hours to live, and subsequently baffled the medical community by teaching himself to use his arms and legs again through self-determination and grueling, uncharted therapy, will test the Jetboat-style dragboat in preparation for his attempt to break the World Record for speed with an electric boat.

Patrick Rummerfield is no stranger to world records: in addition to being the world’s first fully functional quadriplegic, he is the holder of the FIA World Landspeed Record with an electric car, taking his electric vehicle to over 250 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, in 1999. Patrick is also the holder of 33 World’s Firsts.

“I have always been fascinated by fast races, as long as they are performed in safe, controlled places,” commented Patrick from his St. Louis, MO home. “The Cowtown Dragboat Nationals are just that venue! I want to show the world that, with the right commitment, iron will, and desire to succeed, anything is possible. I am thankful to Extreme Beverage Co. for this exciting opportunity.”

Mr. Rummerfield, who is rumored to be in talks with a car racing team for races in the NASCAR, ARCA, and ADRL circuits, will navigate the jetboat in a solo exhibition run that will take him to speeds in excess of 100 mph.

At the recent SDBA Nationals, Patrick Rummerfield achieved another world’s first, by becoming the first fully functional spinal cord injury (SCI) quadriplegic in history to successfully race a drag boat.

In the sultry Texas heat, Mr. Rummerfield raced the Stock Eliminator class drag boat in front of a cheering crowd gathered at Marine Creek Lake in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Mr. Rummerfield was able to establish his newest world’s first thanks to the support of Mike Albright, of Albright and Associates, in Odessa, TX, who made his “747 Wat’er the ODDS” drag boat available to Patrick.

“It’s always an honor to go down in history as being part of a first time record,” said Mr. Albright. “Since this was Patrick’s first run we detuned the motor just a little to be on the cautious side. But after watching him at the starting line and through the run, we thought he was great — he raced like a pro! Pat is an inspiration to everyone!”

“I made it a point to ensure that my life’s experiences are proof to those who are experiencing difficulties, that a ‘can-do’ attitude, determination, and an iron will plays a major role in going from the depth of despair to the feeling that the sky’s the limit,” said Mr. Rummerfield. “Every world’s first is dedicated to those who never give up, to their friends and families, and to all those who support their efforts.”

Mr. Rummerfield, who is rumored to be in talks with a car racing team for races in the NASCAR, ARCA, and ADRL circuits, navigated the drag boat at a speed around 65 mph. “Still quick for the water, but I’m sure he’s going to go a lot faster!” commented Mike Albright.

Mr. Rummerfield commented that he will use this experience to prepare himself for the upcoming attempt at breaking another world record. Ed Dempsey, founder of Dempsey’s World Record Associates (DWRA), is supporting Patrick’s effort by supplying the electric motors and running gear, and by modifying the boat that will be used by DWRA race team to set the new world water record. Mr. Dempsey has also expressed an interest in developing an electric powered airplane to allow Patrick to take his electric racing

records to the air.

Programming will begin airing this fall with a wide-ranging lineup that includes shows that are sometimes hilarious, sometimes irreverent, but always entertaining. The webisode series feature original scripted content, current events with a twist, and reality based shows unlike you have ever seen before. Zolitics.com will also afford viewers a rare glimpse at candid insights and even the on-air acting ability of some of America’s most high-profile political figures and political strategists.

Zolitics was created by some of the most well known names in the political consultancy world, including Republican Media Consultant John Brabender, Democratic Media Consultant Tad Devine, former White House Political Director and New Media expert Sara Taylor, and Republican Strategist Leslie Gromis Baker. Moving Numbers

Moving Numbers will let you follow the only U.S. Senate campaign in the country this year, in this 12 episode fictional dramedy about the often dysfunctional but never boring Sanders for U.S. Senate campaign. The series, set in Pennsylvania, will give viewers a real-world behind the scenes view of the struggles, challenges, and comedy that’s often associated with a high profile campaign for office.

Filming of Moving Numbers began in early May, and features a cast of talented actors from across the country who play the many characters one is likely to encounter in a real campaign, from the candidate and his wife to the “oppo guy.” A variety of real life figures will also appear in the episodes including über pollster Frank Luntz, Democratic Strategist Robert Shrum, and the Senior Editor of The Atlantic, Josh Green.

Scoops

So you think you can be a Washington White House Correspondent? Scoops will give everyday citizens from all over the world the opportunity to find out. Scoops is a reality-based show that has amateur journalists compete on real news stories.

Contest participants will be chosen from the many expected entries that submit a 120 second video on why they would make a great reporter. 25 finalists will then be selected to come to Washington and be interviewed by some of the most respected names in journalism. 12 participants will ultimately be chosen to compete over 12 weeks.

At the beginning of each show the participants will be handed a news assignment by a Washington journalist or a well-known public figure, including America’s first Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge. The show will follow the budding journalists on their quest and the ultimate firing of one at the end of each show until only one remains.

My America

My America will let viewers see what happens when you take two people, a very outspoken “conservative,” and a very outspoken “liberal,” and allow them to introduce each other to their America. This very unusual social experiment will not only introduce us to the diversity that makes America great, it just may also become America’s favorite buddy story.

Look Who’s Coming to Dinner

Look Who’s Coming to Dinner is a joint production of Zolitics and Politics Magazine.
