A full catalog of memorabilia will be available soon and fans can register online at http://www.jostens.com/daytona to be notified as soon as the collection becomes available for purchase. As pieces of the historic track are limited, pre-registration provides the chance to become one of the first race fans to own a piece of Daytona International Speedway and motorsport history.

“From Richard Petty’s seven Daytona 500 victories to the infamous 1979 battle between Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison to Dale Earnhardt’s historic 1998 victory, Daytona International Speedway is one of motorsports most historic and story filled venues,” said Matt Wewel, Jostens Director, Specialty Markets. “Jostens has been helping people tell their stories for over 113 years and we are excited to help capture the history, tradition and passion of Daytona. We look forward to sharing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of Daytona with race fans everywhere.”

While there is a limited amount of available track, Jostens is producing authentic products suitable for every Daytona fan and every budget. Whether a favorite Daytona memory or story happened on the front stretch, backstretch, pit road or an individual turn there will be an opportunity for fans to purchase a piece of it. Understanding the passion that race fans have for everything Daytona, Jostens will also make available the opportunity to purchase made-to-order products.

“We are excited to give our great race fans a chance to take home a piece of the Daytona legacy through this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Joie Chitwood III, President, Daytona International Speedway. “These limited edition memorabilia pieces will allow race fans to take home the history and tradition of one of the world’s most famous racing icons. These keepsakes are an instant classic and can be passed down from generation to generation.”

Daytona International Speedway, which was built in the late 1950s, has been resurfaced only once previously – in 1978. The Daytona International Speedway’s entire 2.5-mile tri-oval will be repaved as well as the skid pads, apron and pit road. Concrete will be used for the pit stalls. All of the existing asphalt will be removed down to the original 52-year-old lime rock base, which will be leveled and then paving will begin. The repaving project has a target completion date of January 1, 2011.

Lane Construction, which repaved other ISC race tracks including Talladega Superspeedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Richmond International Raceway and Darlington Raceway, removed the historic track and has been contracted to repave Daytona International Speedway.

Jostens supplies trophies and championship rings for NASCAR-sanctioned series and is the exclusive designer/provider of NASCAR championship rings. Jostens presented Jamie McMurray with a one-of-a-kind Champions Ring following his thrilling triumph in the 2010 DAYTONA 500®. Jeff Gordon: From “The Kid” to 3 Time Daytona 500 Winner

Jeff Gordon: From “The Kid” to 3 Time Daytona 500 Winner

(PRWEB) March 9, 2005

Jeff Gordon was born on August 4, 1971 in Vallejo, California and began his ascension in the world of racing at an early age. He was only 5 years old when his stepfather, John Bickford, bought him a Quarter Midget race car. He raced nearly every day after school and won his first Quarter Midget championship when he was 8. Jeff later had won four class championships in Go Carts by the time that he was 13. This was extra significant in that he was competing against kids who were 17 and older. He was simply born to race.

Jeff and his family moved to Indiana when he was 15 to advance his racing career. This was due to the fact that Indiana not only had more racetracks but that he could also legally race Sprint Cars there with his parents permission.

The experience in Indiana, though, was not easy. Bickford in an interview with Newsweek stated that his family Â?slept in pick-up trucks and made our own parts. That’s why I think Jeff is misunderstood by people who think he was born to rich parents and had a silver spoon in his mouth.”

Jeff later went on to win 3 sprint car track championships before he was old enough to get a drivers license. He was also the youngest person ever to get a license with the United States Auto Club when he was 16 and had won over 100 races by the time he had graduated from Tri-West High School in nearby Lizton, Indiana in 1989. He became the youngest USAC National Midget Champion in history in 1990 at the amazing age of only 19.

The next chapter was Cup racing with NASCAR in 1993.He was named NASCAR Rookie of the Year after having seven top five finishes during his first year. JeffÂ?s first victory was the Coca Cola 600 in 1994 and it became blatantly obvious that he was a competitive threat in the world of NASCAR racing.

He took home the NASCAR driving title in 1995 and again in 1997, 1998 and 2001 as well. His most recent accomplishment was winning for the third time the Daytona 500 in 2005. The Daytona 500 is considered to be the granddaddy of all NASCAR races. He has had impressive victories all over the NASCAR circuit throughout his career. ItÂ?s no wonder that he has in the past earned the nicknames of Â?Wonder BoyÂ?, Â?Flash GordonÂ? and Â?The KidÂ?.

The record also shows that despite crashes, blown engines, lapses of inconsistency, a divorce and general bad luck that Jeff has always forged ahead with fierce determination to achieve his best. Stay tuned for many years of Â?The KidÂ? to come with an unbroken passion.

Daytona 500 Winner, Racing History, Ticket Giveaways All To Be Part OF 1510 The Zone of Boston’s Weekend Thunder Broadcast From Norwood Arena Reunion

Daytona 500 Winner, Racing History, Ticket Giveaways All To Be Part OF 1510 The Zone of Boston’s Weekend Thunder Broadcast From Norwood Arena Reunion

Burlington, MA (PRWEB) June 2, 2006

Join 1510 The Zone’s Weekend Thunder radio show for a live broadcast on Sunday, June 4th 2006 (rain or shine) starting at 11:00 a.m. from the 2nd Annual Norwood Arena Celebration. Antique race cars, drivers, and personalities of yesteryear will be among the celebrants who will gather at Bezema Buick, Pontiac, GMC on Route 1, in Norwood, MA, just a mile north of the site of the long shuttered Norwood Arena Speedway.

Among the drivers on hand at the reunion will be Pete Hamilton, winner of the 1970 Daytona 500. Born in Dedham, MA, Hamilton remains the only Massachusetts born driver to win stock car racing’s most prestigious event. A veteran of the New England short tracks, including Norwood, Hamilton ultimately migrated south to win the 1967 NASCAR Sportsman division (now Busch Series) national championship. In 1968, he was named Grand National (now Nextel Cup) rookie of the year, and in 1970 collected his first win in the Daytona 500 driving a ’70 Plymouth Superbird for Petty Enterprises.

Hamilton went on to win both 500 mile races at Talladega that year, a feat unmatched until Dale Earnhardt did it in 1999. In 1971 Hamilton moved to the Cotton Owens owned team and won a Daytona 500 qualifying race as well as the July event at Daytona. Over his six year “Cup” career Hamilton totaled four wins, three poles, 26 top fives, and 33 top tens.

“This is a great opportunity for our listeners to see and meet a part of racing history,” said Weekend Thunder host Bob MacKinnon. “We want them to understand and appreciate where the sport has come from so they can be the best fans possible.”

Furthermore, attendees at the reunion will have the opportunity to win tickets to race tracks all over New England. Tickets will be up for grabs at no fewer than ten local tracks ranging from fair grounds to short tracks to New Hampshire International Speedway. Attendees may try to win tickets at just one track or can enter their names in the drawings for up to all ten.

“If people only want the Loudon tickets they can enter their names in that one drawing, or if they just want to see live racing anywhere they can enter the drawings at all ten tracks,” explained MacKinnon. “A different winner will be chosen for each venue so the more tracks an individual enters the better the chance he or she has of winning.”

Former Norwood driver Marty Bezema, Sr. and his family will host the 2nd Annual Norwood Arena Reunion. Both the NEAR and STAR antique racing tours are expected to turn out in force again for this trip through racing nostalgia. Norwood Arena Speedway shut its doors in 1973, but before its closure played host to some of the most exciting racing in the northeast. Besides Hamilton, drivers by the likes of Bill Slater, Leo Cleary, Bugs Stevens, Jack Malone, George Savary, and Reino Tulonen all competed at Norwood and many are expected to once again attend the reunion.

Coastal 181, publisher and distributor of books of past racing eras, is also expected to be on hand with the latest copies its’ highly sought after chronicles of racing history. Furthermore, fans who attend the 2nd annual Norwood Arena Celebration are encouraged to bring memorabilia, scrap books and pictures of that racing time period.

Rounding out the festivities at the Norwood reunion are a classic/muscle car cruise and destination for several car clubs around the South Shore.

The 2nd Annual Norwood Arena Reunion will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. A light lunch will be hosted by the Bezema family courtesy of Best Foods of Taunton, Kayem Meat Products, and Haton Hamburgers.

Weekend Thunder is Boston’s only local NASCAR show on the region’s only NASCAR station—1 WWZN 1510 AM The Zone. Mixed Martial Arts and NASCAR Collide During The Weekend of the 51st Annual Daytona 500

Mixed Martial Arts and NASCAR Collide During The Weekend of the 51st Annual Daytona 500

Daytona Beach, FL (PRWEB) January 5, 2009

For the first time in history, a mixed martial arts event will be held in conjunction with a major motorsports event. Racing fans and mixed martial arts fans will gather together for the “Rumble in Race Town”, presented by Xtreme Cage Fighting on Saturday, February 14th, 2009 at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.

The promoter of the event, Doug Bland, has over 13 years of motorsports marketing experience along with a reputation of putting together some of the best fight cards in mixed martial arts. For this highly anticipated event, Bland has put together a fight card that will feature former UFC fighters, a former NFL football player and several of the best mixed martial arts fighters in America.

“We are very excited to bring the incredible sport of mixed martial arts to Daytona during the weekend of the 500,” says Bland. “The reaction of the drivers I have spoken to about the event has been absolutely phenomenal, and we are looking forward to putting on a great show for the drivers and the mixed martial arts fans in Florida.”

The Rumble in Race Town marks the thirty year anniversary of another well known fist fight that took place during the Daytona 500 on turn number 3 between the Allison brothers and Cale Yarbrough. This brawl helped make NASCAR attractive to the television networks and forever changed the way the sport is accepted in America. With mixed martial arts becoming the fastest growing sport in the world, Xtreme Cage Fighting is now on the front lines in accelerating its popularity.

“By pairing mixed martial arts together with the most prestigious race in motorsports, it allows Xtreme Cage Fighting the opportunity to present this upcoming sport to the 200,000 racing fans that will be in Daytona,” says Bland.

The Daytona 500 has produced some of the most memorable events in NASCAR history, and it is the hope of Doug Bland that the Rumble in Race Town will be historical as well.

Tickets for the DynaPep Rumble in Race Town range from $ 30 to $ 100 and are on sale now via Ticket Master and the Ocean Center box office.

Dyna Pep will be the primary sponsor for the Rumble in Race Town, along with Budweiser and MMA Militia Fight Gear.
