<br />During the 17th century, the explorer La Salle traveled through a large swath of what is today the Midwest &#8211; the same region where Chicago-based LaSalle Bank has a strong presence with individual consumers and small and medium-sized businesses. LaSalle Bank made headlines in April when its parent company, ABN Amro, agreed to be acquired by Barclays in what would be the largest banking merger ever. (The price tag is around $  90 billion.) The catch is that to aid the deal&#8217;s passage, ABN Amro agreed to sell LaSalle to Bank of America at a price &#8211; $  21 billion &#8211; that could seem like a bargain once Bank of America reaps the cost savings of owning LaSalle and starts profiting from its retail network in the Midwest. But LaSalle has other ardent suitors, foremost among them The Royal Bank of Scotland, which covets LaSalle&#8217;s strong position in Chicago. That&#8217;s the tale of DoubleClick as it finds itself near the top of this month&#8217;s Hoover&#8217;s Index. The company provides targeted online advertising placement and scheduling services, consulting services related to online advertising, and other electronic marketing services. Google intends to pay $  3.1 billion to buy DoubleClick, a move that should extend the leading search company&#8217;s reach into more facets of online advertising, which makes up the bulk of Google&#8217;s revenues.</p>

<p>The Gatorade Company (Index #371)&#13;<br />
<br />First the University of Florida Gators opened the month of April with a historic title, becoming the first college ever to win the NCAA football and men&#8217;s basketball championships in the same year. Then Gatorade, which was developed in the 1960s to hydrate Gator football teams playing in the hot Florida sun, closed off the month at the top of The Hoover&#8217;s Index. With Major League Baseball season having started, the NASCAR season in full swing, and the NBA and NHL playoffs underway, April is one of the busiest sporting months on the calendar &#8211; and one of the busiest times on the Gatorade advertising calendar.</p>

If you want soda, they&#8217;re happy to oblige with their signature products. And with the ongoing success of Red Bull, Coke&#8217;s POWERade, and similar drinks, it&#8217;s no wonder the category pioneer &#8211; the venerable Gatorade &#8211; finds itself in the spotlight.</p>

<br />When Enterprise says &#8220;We&#8217;ll pick you up,&#8221; it&#8217;s not just a marketing slogan &#8211; it&#8217;s a key to how the company does business. While top rivals Hertz and Avis operate mainly from airports, Enterprise has traditionally focused on customers whose own cars are in the shop or who need a rental for vacations or other special occasions. (More than 90% of Enterprise&#8217;s car rental business comes from customers in their home cities, as opposed to travelers.) This emphasis stands to change thanks to a big deal Enterprise announced in April. An autographed football jersey is nice, but the only thing memorable about it is that your favorite player wore something similar to it at some point in his or her career.</p>

<p>&#8220;The second problem,&#8221; Johns continued, &#8220;is that there are very few complete memorabilia pieces &#8212; something that contains a complete story or something that has several elements that really capture a significant moment in time. In my experience, collectors gravitate toward memorabilia that has depth, and is complete and ready to hang on their wall.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>&#8220;Finally, the third problem is affordability,&#8221; Johns said. &#8220;Most people are familiar with walking into high-end sports memorabilia shops and being afraid to ask &#8216;How much?&#8217; because they know they probably can&#8217;t afford it. We wanted to develop something that all fans can afford.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Memothentic is the first memorabilia piece to contain a handwritten memory of what the athlete or celebrity was thinking during a memorable moment of his or her career.  </p>

<p>The Joe Montana San Francisco 49ers Memothentic Series 1 entry is a case in point. </p>

<p> Home School students from across America stand out as champions, this year, in three of the nation&#8217;s biggest competitions: The 80th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, The 5th Annual National Word Power Competition, and the 19th Annual National Geographic Bee. Each champion praised the flexibility of the Home School Curriculum and the dedicated help of their Home School teachers for their wins.</p>

<p>Evan O&#8217;Dorney (thirteen), champion of the much coveted 80th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, prepared for his win by juggling balls around the living room; while, being drilled by his Home School teacher &#8211; his mother. Surprisingly, Evan was more excited to talk about his love of math at a post-win interview. This well-rounded bright young man is also an accomplished pianist and Tae Kwon Do, level one, black belt. Evan&#8217;s Home School Curriculum affords him the flexibility to study in his own way, at his own pace and this Home School scholar certainly excels.</p>

<p>In fact, many children excel in the self-paced, family-oriented, Home School environment. On the Scripps official website it listed that out of the 286 contestants participating at this year&#8217;s Bee, five of the fifteen listed, as this years&#8217; top contenders were Home School scholars.</p>

<p>Another top scholar following the Home School Curriculum is Matthew Evans (twelve), winner of the 5th Annual National Word Power Challenge. Kathleen Bordelon, executive director of the contest describes Matthew&#8217;s command of the English language as &#8220;staggering&#8221;. Matthew praises his Home School teacher, his mother, as the best coach &#8220;in the world.&#8221; Matthew is also a talented sketch artist, pianist and like other young men, enjoys camping and basketball; yet, another example of a young scholar flourishing in the Home School environment. </p>

<p>Caitlin Snaring (fourteen), another notable Home School scholar, achieved a double honor as the first girl in seventeen years to win the 19th Annual National Geographic Bee. The questions at this event require contestants to integrate their understanding and knowledge of sociology, anthropology, history, language, and current events with geography &#8211; no small feat. Caitlin praises the open system of the Home School Curriculum for affording her the time to prepare for the contest by combining all her subjects with geography. This young champion is already considering her college options, but at present is concentrating her efforts on competing for the international title at the National Geographic&#8217;s World Championship, in August.</p>

<p>Another newsworthy young man, Joey Logano, sixteen, made NASCAR history after winning his race in the Featherlite Coaches 200. This Home School scholar won his third Grand National Division race in four career starts by beating Kevin Harvick (winner of the NEXTEL Cup All-Star Challenge and the Daytona 500) by nearly two and one half seconds.</p>

<p>Individuals now have through August 12, 2007, to register and submit a 30-second video to the Best Western Group site at http://www.youtube.com/group/bestwesternvacations, describing why they are in desperate need of a vacation.  From August 30-September 9, the Top 25 videos will be showcased on http://www.bestwestern.com/vacationSOS, where visitors will be able to vote for the Top 10 Finalists.  A Best Western panel of select judges will determine the No. 1 video the week of September 10.  </p>

<p>The Grand Prize winner will receive a seven-day vacation anywhere in the U.S. or Canada for a family of up to four, with help from The Travel Mom.  The package also includes a video camera to record this special trip, along with a one-year membership to AAA/CAA and $  1,000 (USD) in spending money.  The nine First Prize winners will each receive a $  250 (USD) Best Western Travel Card, which can be used to pay for accommodations and related incidentals at nearly 4,200 Best Western hotels worldwide.</p>
